The new managing and administrative director of the City of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has to
step down after having no confidence in him.
At the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra,
the orchestra’s organizational structure and managing director had to step down from his positions as concertmaster and
musician following a vote of no confidence after he unilaterally canceled several performances without consulting staff.
The orchestra decided to postpone a performance by a pianist whose performance was unfairly canceled and
announced that it would conduct an external review of the decision to cancel the performance.
Sylvania Community Orchestra Competition
The Sylvania Community Orchestra has decided to hold a competition to provide opportunities for young children and students.
To be eligible for this competition, you must be 21 years old or younger and live or attend school in northwest Ohio or southeast Michigan.
In order to enter the competition, applicants must submit a first round application and application fee by September 24,
and those selected for the second round must submit a recording of their solo audition before November 15.
How the contest works and scholarships
After reviewing those recordings, the judges will notify finalists by December 20,
who will then be invited to participate in rehearsals and perform a solo of their choice
with the orchestra on March 2 to receive a $300 scholarship.
The young musician will have the unique experience of performing with an orchestra
and will be one step closer to realizing his or her dream.
