What is an Orchestra?
Many different instruments and voices come together in an ensemble.
Basically, an orchestra consists of many musicians, often 100 or more, who work together under another musician called the conductor. Every musician is different, each adding personal sounds from their specific instruments that are arranged into four leading areas: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The violins, violas, cellos, and double basses in the string section contribute to the main sound of the orchestra. Flutes, clarinets, and oboes give the music a soft and melodic touch, while the trumpets, trombones, and horns from the brass section add strong and dominating sounds. Rhythms and dramatic points are added to music by timpani and cymbals.
When everything is well synchronized according to the conductor’s wishes, it transforms into a musical experience that stands out.
